Rain, Planes, and "Earth Mother"

I have a few updates to share with you this week. These last few weeks it has been raining, storming, lighting, and thundering. This short video clip shows one of my recent designs that is playful with the idea of rain and people. This is not yet a fully developed piece but still a great concept to show!

The week before last I needed a break from what I was doing. I am always looking for something to entertain Jacob, my 18 month old son. He loves to see things fly, so I dug some pieces of wood from my scrap pile and created this plane. Click on each picture to get a larger view. Ahhhh, now back to work.

One of my pieces, “Earth Mother”, is an abstract figurative form in the shape of an arch with out stretched arms capturing the energy and essence of the fully alive person.

Earth Mother

Designed in late 2003 and cast in 2005, Earth Mother is emerging from the ground as if she is one with the earth. Circular rings accompany the form and generate a dynamic, fluidic energy. This piece embodies being fully human and alive.

The process of creating Earth Mother evolved from an early wire version intended as a large center piece for a fountain or pond, to clay concept models that started to better express the energy and life.

Enjoy!
